![]() Therapeutic RecreationRecreational Therapy helps residents become more alert, calmer, and more comfortable. Through our recreational therapy program, we also provide opportunity for residents to improve their health and regain their dignity. At Woodcrest, our activities engage our residents and are always meaningful, motivating, and visually appealing. We work closely with the other therapy departments to help ensure that residents receive full therapeutic benefits from recreational activities. StaffOur trained recreational therapists provide activities that create a place where residents can interact with each other and have an outlet for self-expression. Members of our recreation staff speak several languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Yiddish and Hebrew, allowing residents to get the most out of their therapeutic recreation experience. Activities for our Asian Residents
We offer special activities geared towards our Asian residents. Our Korean and Chinese groups meet often for tea, drawing, and games. We offer Asian music, entertainment, food, and movies. Our Chinese and Korean speaking staff is always available at these activities. ActivitiesWe have a number of other specialized clubs and activities where each resident can find his or her niche and meet others with similar interests. Our Women’s and Men’s clubs meet weekly, offering residents a chance to socialize, share refreshments, and participate in games and crafts. Recent projects have included handmade jewelry and eyeglass cases. Games include tabletop bowling, basketball, dominoes, cards, and checkers. Other activities include weekly beauty workshops, where our residents’ nails, hair, and faces receive special care. We hold Bingo and Pokeno games, weekly music and dancing events led by guest music groups, exercise classes led by an instructor with a background in physical therapy, group discussions, and movies. We also have strolling music on each unit a number of times weekly. Musicians go from room to room, encouraging each resident to sing along. We hold current events discussions, covering the news of the day. Eligible residents are registered to vote, and we feature different candidates and issues of upcoming elections in our discussions. In the summertime, we hold large barbeques for all residents, as well as a number of ice cream socials. In the winter, we host pizza parties, complete with ice cream and music entertainment.
